One quick question—when are fabric and frame more than just an
awning? Not fair, you had a hint in the last article. In the awning world
fabric and frame are the staples (no pun intended) of our business. In the
world of marketing and visual imagery, a fabric covered frame is an empty
canvas calling out for an awning Michelangelo or Picasso to fill. Yes, there is
more to an awning than weather protection.
First, here is the psychology of color. No, not the Sigmund
Freud type of psychology but the following:
Blue =
trustworthy and dependable (gender neutral) Green =
peaceful and natural (no surprise here) Orange =
fun and flamboyant (stimulates appetite) Red =
enthusiastic and confident (maybe not in this economy) Purple =
creative and eccentric (loved by adolescent girls) Brown =
wholesome and reliable (Fortune 500 favorite) White =
clean and neutral (never use on government buildings)
So much for psychology!
Okay, enough on color, now the real possibilities. There is
virtually no logo design in existence nor text or art that cannot be applied
to an awning fabric. The days of hand-painted text in white have given way to
color combinations and personal expression like never before, limited only by
one's imagination. The awning shape itself can make the first statement with the addition of
graphics (text, art, logos, etc.) the catalyst for your next consumer’s full attention.
All of the above can easily lead to that brief moment in time that is coveted by all business.
That moment when a person says to themselves “I’ve got to
check-out that business.”
And the many venues for this creative expression, the list
is virtually inexhaustible. To name only a few, vinyl graphics on vinyl fabric,
vinyl graphics on acrylic fabric, digital prints on either. All of the above can
even be on a backlit product that lights the way to more business.
So, next time you are looking for an awning or awning
products remember, there is more to awnings than fabric and frame. Be creative,
be expressive and give your clientele a feast for their eyes. Like any fine
painting it will be revisited many times over.
